Panels is shutting down

Hey everyone,

It’s been over a year since we launched Panels. Along the way there have been plenty of highs, and we were able to hit a few great milestones:

  • #1 app for Photos on both app stores in September 2024
  • More than 2 million wallpapers downloaded

We’ve got some important news to share. Earlier this year, the makeup of the development team changed, and despite our best efforts to bring in collaborators who shared our passion and vision, we weren’t able to find the right fit. Rather than keeping the app running without being able to grow it in the way we originally envisioned, we felt it was best to make a clean break.

The Panels app itself will be shutting down.

We will be open sourcing the Panels app code under the Apache 2.0 license. This will allow anyone to build on what we started — we’re excited to see what new projects may grow from it. The code will be released once the app shutdown is complete and all user data has been securely deleted — we're targeting around January 4, 2026.

We're keeping the artist revenue share program active until the very end because we want their work to be rewarded!

What this means for you

  • Panels will be shutting down on December 31, 2025.
  • The wallpapers you’ve downloaded or purchased are yours to keep, forever.
  • You can create your own wallpaper app using our open-source code as a foundation.
  • All user data will be permanently deleted after the shutdown.

Refunds

When the app is removed from the stores, all active subscriptions will be automatically canceled.

After the shutdown on December 31, 2025, we’ll begin proactively refunding all active subscriptions. This ensures you can continue accessing and downloading wallpapers until the shutdown date — no action needed on your part.

If you would like a refund before the shutdown date, please see below for how to request one via the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.

Google Play Store

  1. Go to play.google.com.
  2. At the top right, click your profile picture.
  3. Click Payments and subscriptionsBudget and order history.
  4. For the order that you want to return, click Report a problem.
  5. Complete the form and note that you'd like a refund, then click Submit.

Apple App Store

  1. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com and sign in with your Apple ID.
  2. Select Request a refund, choose a reason such as “Other,” include a short description, and submit.
  3. Apple typically processes approved refunds within 24–48 hours.

If you’re having problems, please contact support@panels.art and we’ll do our best to handle it from our side.

Thank you

We’ve truly enjoyed this journey with you and appreciate all the support you’ve given us at Panels and the artists you’ve supported. We couldn’t have done this without each and every one of you.
